With deep sadness and regret we note
the death of our dear friend and colleague,
the remarkable flute soloist, pedagogue
and professor of flute at the University
of Washington - Felix Emil Skowronek
on 17. IV. 2006. An ardent exponent
of the wooden Boehm-system flute,
he is considered by many to be the dean
of today's wooden flute players.
Anticipating the current revival of the
wooden flute by more than three decades,
Prof. Skowronek played a significant
role in the revival of this instrument
and provided vital encouragement
and support when flutemaking was
first established in Seattle over
thirty years ago. His artistic integrity,
intelligence, extraordinary exuberance,
and undimmed boyish enthusiasm for
everything pertaining to the flute
will be greatly missed and long remembered
by those who knew him. We offer our
heartfelt condolences to his sister
Theodosia, his daughter Andrea,
son Neil, and long time companion
Pamela Ryker, as well as to all those who knew
and loved him.
